I’ve traveled a fair bit of this world of ours, but nothing outshines the beauty of the American Southwest. It’s a land of endless blue skies, majestic mesas and dusty trails. It was while riding along one such trail that I came across Mineral Park, a ghost town in northwest Arizona. Exploring some of the rusted out ruins, I encountered a cantankerous rattlesnake.
Though I tried to make friends – even offering to buy a round at the saloon – Mr. Rattlesnake had other plans. Before I could say “Ouch!” I was being tended to by the medical professionals at the nearby Kingman Turquoise Mine. Quickly making friends with the family that runs the mining operation, I took a tour of their extensive turquoise mine. First excavated by the Native Americans in 600 A.D., Kingman is now the last full-time turquoise production mine in the United States, and is renowned the world over for the quality of its turquoise.
