Before you ever step foot on the island of Murano, you must first step off the coast of Venice and onto a boat. From there, you’ll watch the sinking edifices of the city recede from view as the vaporetto whisks you on a 20-minute ride over the sparkling blue waters of the Laguna Veneta — the Venetian Lagoon.
A bay of the Adriatic Sea, the lagoon is home to dozens of islands, including those that make up Venice itself, like the colorful lace-making village of Burano, and the cemetery island of San Michele, to name a few. But for lovers of exceptional craftsmanship and fine jewelry, none compares to Murano, whose artisans have been setting the global standard for glasswork since the late 13th century, when the glassmakers and their furnaces were banished across the water for fear they’d set Venice’s wooden buildings ablaze.
To pay tribute to the waterway these charming islands call home, we’re introducing the Laguna Veneta Murano Earrings, a celebration in blue inspired by the view of the lagoon from above. Swirls of blue and white glass intertwine to form beads of soothing turquoise that are offset by smaller beads of translucent blue-green on yellow gold-finished settings. When you don these pieces, you won’t just be channeling the beauty of the Venetian Lagoon on a clear day. You’ll also be part of a 700-year pursuit of perfection.
