Our Nation’s bird, the Bald Eagle, is unique to North America, making it ‘our’ eagle. The Bald Eagle embodies the qualities that are perfect for representing America–– strength, independence, courage and fortitude. The Second Continental Congress selected this majestic bird as the U. S. National Symbol on June 20, 1782. The Founding Fathers of the United States were inspired by the eagle’s symbolism from the Roman Republic.
In ancient Rome, eagles were carried by legions (eagle-bearers) that accompanied the emperor. The Bald Eagle was cut out from the very beginning to represent admirable ideals and principles. The Land of the Free Knife celebrates our Nation’s bird in beautiful detail, etched into the stainless steel blade and sculpted into the simulated bone handle.
