Forget the blue diamond that caused so much drama in the movie “Titanic.” We have the real heart of the ocean right here. For hundreds of years, on one specific beach in the Dominican Republic, locals found fragments of a mysterious pale blue gemstone. Legend suggested that the gemstones came directly from the Caribbean Sea. Everything changed in 1974 when a Dominican man named Miguel Méndez rediscovered larimar on a beach at the foot of the Bahoruco Mountain Range. To name this gem, he merged “Larissa,” his daughter’s name, and “mar,” the Spanish word for “sea.” Larimar’s color evokes the waters of the Caribbean Sea itself. Our Heart of the Ocean Larimar Pendant features generous carats of rare larimar from the same source as Méndez’s discovery. A second source of larimar has never been found. In fact, larimar is so precious, it’s 10,000 times rarer than diamonds. While we can’t guarantee that this rare stone will be available for much longer, we can promise you the best price you’ll find anywhere.
