Ever since the Renaissance, the pottery of Deruta, Italy, has wowed collectors around the world. Renowned for its quality and sumptuously painted designs executed by artisans, this pottery has been a mainstay in the kitchens of the wealthy.
“The terracotta vases made in Deruta are often mentioned for how well they are made and beautifully decorated,” wrote the Dominican historian Leandro Alberti in 1553. “It is believed that there are no other craftsmen in Italy that can match the work, even though there have been attempts to do so.”
One of Deruta’s most famous motifs involves colorful lemons, berries and grapes against a blue, white and orange background. This motif has inspired our Limone Butter Dish. Made in Italy by some of the country’s finest craftsmen and dishwasher safe, the Limone Butter Dish provides a festive backdrop for entertaining, and represents the pinnacle of Italian ceramic artistry.
