Steel is a staple of the world’s industrial economy. From 1875 to 1920 American steel production grew from 380,000 tons to 60 million tons annually, making the U.S. the world leader.
Such international acclaim would never have been achieved without the men who worked in the steel factories. What these men did was no easy feat, putting their safety at risk every day on the job. In fact, according to The Economist fatal accidents in the steel mills, accounted for 20% of all male deaths in Pittsburgh in the 1880s. Newspaper lists of men killed and wounded each year were as long as a casualty list for a small battle in the American Civil War. This was not a job for the faint of heart. And, is very likely the origins of the saying “nerves of steel.”
The Men of Steel Necklace is our tribute to the brave and fearless steelworkers who help build America. Forged of powerful stainless steel with an oxidized finish to mirror the rugged challenges of the steelworker’s job, this necklace is for the man who remains cool and collected when life turns up the heat.
