Roman coins from the era of the Caesars held a dual significance beyond mere currency — they were symbols of power and prosperity, but also served as the paychecks for gladiators and soldiers. Minted with intricate designs between the year 33 AD and 400 AD and with inscriptions glorifying emperors and their conquests, these coins circulated widely across the Roman Empire. Stauer was only able to acquire 29 of these rare pieces of history and we are keeping a few for our own collection of rarities.
For soldiers, receiving their wages in coinage affirmed their loyalty to the empire and provided a tangible reward for their service and dedication. Similarly, gladiators earned their livelihoods in the arena, with winnings often granted in the form of coins. We have bezel set these coins in 14k gold plating so that they can be worn as pendants.
Today, these genuine ancient artifacts provide valuable insights into the economic and social structures of the time, preserving the legacy of an empire that shaped the course of history. For the warrior in you … Hail Caesar.
