It’s nearly impossible to identify a gemstone that carries more cultural significance than turquoise. And while its impact can be traced back to Ancient Egypt and the Persian empire, no culture is more closely associated with turquoise than that of the Native Americans. Known as the “Skystone”, many tribes believe that this stone is “alive” because of its ability to change color according to its environment. Today, only about 20 mines in the Southwest supply gem-quality turquoise, with less than 5% of the output worthy of being set into jewelry. Once a thriving industry, many Southwest mines have run dry and are now closed.
Our connections in Tucson recently brought us a limited supply of Arizona turquoise that we used to fashion our Skystone Necklace. Inspired by the work of those ancient craftsmen and designed to showcase this exceptional blue stone, each stabilized vibrant cabochon features a unique, one-of-a-kind matrix. Its uniqueness is what makes this gem special — just like the one you love.
