In the Old City of Jerusalem, you’ll be amazed what you can find. After all, it’s a place packed with holy sites for the three big Abrahamic religions.
Seemingly suspended in time, the Old City’s cobblestone streets are filled with the smells of spices, as well as street vendors selling everything from sandals to ceramics. The people watching is incredible, from the tourists visiting from around the globe to the cloaked Armenians walking to church, slamming the ground with their staffs in unison.
The Old City is also home to some of the world’s finest antiquity merchants, which was the reason for my most recent visit. Uri is my guy in Jerusalem, and when I entered his store, he quickly whisked me to his backroom and showed me an incredible pendant he’d recently come across.
The pendant featured a stunningly large cushion-cut blue topaz bounded by mother-of-pearl and sparkling white stones. The pendant had once belonged to a sultan who had traded them for some islands in the Red Sea.
