When my buddy who works as a livestock handler for the Arizona rodeo circuit invited me to visit, I leapt at the chance to see him in action. Unfortunately, I drank him under the table the night before the event, and my payback was covering for him in the arena. I’ve been around a bull or two, but those guys were Ferdinands compared to the brutes in these chutes, and soon I was leaping to save my skin — and one bull shaved some off anyway. My buddy felt bad for putting me in that predicament (and for laughing), so he gave me his favorite Navajo necklace as a memento of my brief rodeo career.
