We are so lucky to visit Murano every year. Watching them work was mesmerizing, their skillful hands transformed molten glass into delicate, intricate shapes. The heat, the glow and the rhythmic movements created a hypnotic dance.
One artisan Marcello, invited me to try, guiding my hands as we crafted a glass square — a new design he was developing — and we thought the results were stunning. It was like each of the pieces were a collection of masterpieces of art. The experience was surreal, connecting me and our Stauer gang to centuries of tradition. Marcello explained this Avventurina technique was developed in the 17th century, and involves infusing glass with 24k gold particles and rich gemtone colors to create a shimmering, starry effect. This method requires precise control of temperature and timing to achieve the desired sparkle without compromising the glass’s integrity.
Leaving with the beautiful glass collection, I felt a deep appreciation for the artistry and passion of Murano’s craftsmen. My journeys to Murano are a blend of history, creativity, and enchantment that I’ll continue to treasure.
